In the meantime, everyone had returned home from work and was sitting around the table eating dinner prepared by Marylou. Delphine did not join them. Someone had put on the TV, which was blaring from the living room. The newscaster was describing a crash from his helicopter:

“We are looking below at a ten-car crash on the San Mateo bridge. Traffic is stopped in the East direction, and rubberneckers are slowing traffic to a crawl in the westerly direction. From what we can gleam so far, a white sports car, traveling above the speed limit, was weaving in and out of the three-lane roadway. It apparently misjudged another car’s attempt to overtake in lane one, and they collided. There are many injuries, but we’re not sure of any fatalities currently. Please stay tuned. This is Vann the Man your Newsman at 7.”
